Shimano LRT (zh:縞野軽鐵) is an LRT line owned by Terralith Rapid Transit (TRT) and operated by Shimano LRT (the LRT division of SMTR). It has a role to complement the railroad blank area of the route such as SMTR.

This system is based on the old TeufortLRT (TLRT) and has been customized for left-hand traffic. The vehicles were originally S43-Tec LRVs used in the TeufortLRT (TLRT), with the transition to MTR4, LIGHTACE has been upgraded to accommodate MTR4, and S43-Tec LRT has been replaced by S43-Tec Stadtbahn. A new vehicle called STADTACE has also been introduced.

Features

History

Plans for the first SLRT route were announced on August 21, 2024, and the first section of KR01 opened on August 26 of the same year to commemorate the opening of Utsunomiya LRT.

Through service with Teifot LRT U2 will begin on 13 February 2024.

All routes except for AL02 will be suspended on August 19, 2024. Through services of Teufort LRT and SMTR will also be suspended. In addition, all vehicles in service at the time, except for LRT 1928, will be taken out of service.

The next day, on August 20, the HG route temporarily resumed service with buses. Other routes were gradually resumed with the introduction of compatible LIGHTACE vehicles, and after through service with SMTR resumed on August 29, all SLRT services were restored. In connection with this, Landfall Station was renamed Kamiyonai Station. Management of the area around the station was transferred from Teufort LRT to TRT.

Between September 16th and 23rd, operation of the Cinderace Light Rail and Kamaboko LRT was transferred from SMTR to SLRT.

The S43-Tec LRT, which had been in use until then, will be retired in June 2025 as part of the transition to the MTR4 and replaced with the S43-Tec Stadtbahn. At the same time, odd-numbered trains (excluding one car) will begin operating.

A single-car train began operation in August 2025.

Rolling Stock

The rolling stock is mainly made up of Stadtbahn trains created by S43-tec and trains created based on them. There are slight differences depending on the route, but basically all trains are operated interchangeably as long as they are compatible with the platform length.

List of liveries

Shimano LRT

LIGHTACE

Vehicles transplanted from MTR3. There have been no major changes to the model except for 1998. Odd numbers of cars cannot be included in a train formation.

Compared to other vehicles in the fleet, these vehicles have an older design and operational limitations, such as the inability to set up odd-numbered trains. Therefore, they are not allocated at a high ratio when new lines are opened. Also, the number of vehicles may decrease when the depot is renovated, but allocations will be made so that no vehicles disappear from the list below.

Furthermore, if similar vehicles such as STADTACE begin operation, all vehicles except LRV1928 may be retired.

STADTACE

This is the successor model to LIGHTACE, created with reference to the S43-Tec Stadtbahn, described below. It is possible to connect an odd number of cars to a train, and single-car formations are also possible.

Along with the S43-Tec vehicles described later, the proportion of these vehicles will be set higher when new routes are opened or when depots are renovated, but because there are fewer types of vehicles, the number of vehicles will not be as large as that of S43-Tec.

STADTACE Stadtbahn 1999 2 - 5

S43-Tec Stadtbahn

A vehicle made by S43. It is the successor model to the S43-Tec LRT that existed when the SLRT opened. It is possible to connect an odd number of cars to a train, and single-car formations are also possible. As a general rule, the colors used in the previous model have been retained. These are the main vehicles currently used by the SLRT, accounting for 60% of the total fleet. When new lines are opened or relocated, these, along with the aforementioned STADTACE vehicles, will be allocated to account for a large proportion of the fleet. Currently under development, new vehicles will be introduced sequentially. Only Stadtbahn 2002 has a Metro model with a larger proportion of seats across the street. This is mainly used for short distance routes.

The gray vehicles are currently out of service for modifications to adapt to the MTR4 system, but the former LRV2020 was decommissioned in June 2025.

Shimano MTR Compatible Model

A model compatible with through service to Shimano MTR. Unlike the Shimano MTR vehicles mentioned below, these vehicles operate without distinction as long as the tracks are connected. Due to its design, it is not possible to couple it with other trains.

There are plans to replace the LIGHTACE 1999T with the corresponding STADTACE 1999 model equipped with an emergency through door.

STADTACE Stadtbahn 1994 Lavender(Catnap) 4

The remaining seven types will be introduced sequentially as the scope of through services with SMTR and other systems expands.

Kamaboko LRT

This is a carriage exclusively for the Kamaboko LRT. It features a kamaboko-like design with wooden boards. There are sections with a height limit of 3.8m, so the carriages used are designed to comply with this. Operation with three-car trains began in June 2025.

Cinderace Light Rail

Cinderace Light Rail is formerly served by the DLR B90, but now uses the same S43-Tec Stadtbahn as some other SLRTs. It is the only SLRT line to use Thirdrail.

Model Livery Cars
S43-Tec Stadtbahn 2002 Red 5 or 7

A modified 2002 model with a special paint scheme is planned for future introduction.

Shimano MTR

A train that connects to LRT from Shimano MTR. Due to its design, it is not possible to couple it with other trains. There are plans to replace the 13-100 Series with the corresponding STADTACE 1999 model equipped with an emergency through door.

Plasmaliner LRT

These vehicles provide through service to Plasmaliner LRT Route 01. All are manufactured by S43-Tec, and due to the possibility of future model updates, they will remain in their default livery (the same as Stadtbahn 2002, which belongs to the SLRT) for the time being.

Teufort LRT

These are vehicles belonging to the Teufort LRT, which once ran from the Teufort area. All vehicles were operated with AC01. All vehicles have been retired. All of the vehicles were older models for the MTR3.

As a side note, as of 2026, the LIGHTACE LRV 1928 is the only vehicle that has operated on the Teufort LRT without changing its design. The others have either been retired or their models have been changed.
