Kowloon (Chinese: 九龍) is a major interchange station on the Let's Play Server, featuring 8 heavy rail, 1 high-speed rail, 1 light rail and 2 ferry lines. The station is located ~1500 blocks northeast of Spawn and one of the most frequented stations on the server.
The station is one of the oldest stations to be constructed on the Let's Play Server. It is located on the intersection of a plains and a beach biome, facing north-south. Its namesake is Kowloon station, which in turn is named after one of the three main geographical regions of Hong Kong.
The station is features 3 floors in the main building and a rooved waterfront exit with access to the ferry docks and Tramlink platforms. All platforms are north-south oriented.
The station can only be accessed by the waterfront entrance, which comprises a big open hall with a north-south canopy, similar to the main canopy, in red concrete and glass. The floor is constructed of stone bricks. The ferry docks are located on the eastern edge, directly facing the water. Access is possible through gateways on the north and south sides between the water and the Tramlink tracks.
West of the entrance is the actual station building. As previously mentioned, the design is inspired by Canary Wharf DLR station. The main bulding only has one access leading from the waterfront exit to the underground concourse.
Passenger information displays at the concourse
The station's concourse features a large passenger information display screen in the entrance area, as seen in other large Lilypad Rail hubs like Llanmara Saint Ann's. The concourse has a floor out of randomly arranged stone, polished andesite and sea lanterns, walls out of London Underground Addon gray concrete, a ceiling out of quartz blocks and station-coloured purpur blocks, as well as ceiling lights and JCM light lanterns for lighting and evenly arranged quartz pillars. The stairs leading to the upper platforms are JCM's MTR stairs flanked by deepslate tile stairs and walls. Platforms 1-10 can be accessed from the concourse by stairs and lifts. The concourse also features a Botond Burgers store, and will soon receive a Llanmara Folkebank and a Bamboo Café.
Overground platforms at Kowloon, picture taken from Platform 6
The main overground station structure holds Platforms 1-10. Just like Canary Wharf DLR, the ceiling has a big east-west canopy in the centre and flatter parts that cover the edges of the platforms, flanked by sandstone walls. The platforms are each 204 blocks long, have a polished andesite and granite floor, indented LU platform blocks, route maps, glass fence barriers in front of the lift doors preventing passengers exiting the lift from running onto the tracks, platform stop markers for train drivers, help lines, metal pillars showing the station name in black and supporting JCM PIDs, and rubbish bins next to some of the pillars.
Kowloon has 3 underground platforms (11-13) served by the Metro Pengaloo Line and the Sidelines Hillside. Their design differs from the other platforms, showing a block palette more similar to the concourse.
Unlike the other platforms, they feature LU roundels, seating, emergency train stop buttons and platform screen doors, including single-leaf doors to match the door positions of the 1992 Tube stock used on the Pengaloo Line. Additionally, the Pengaloo Line platforms (11 and 12) are the only electrified platforms at Kowloon, with a four-rail system providing +420 and -210 V DC power respectively, adding up to 630 V.
The clock tower was built by Jonathan on 5 February 2023. The tower is built of sandstone, red sandstone and birch planks to visually resemble the clock tower in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, and peaks at 67 m (excluding the lightning rod). Unlike its real-life counterpart, it is open for visitors, which can access the viewing platform 49 m above the floor or one of three conference rooms for business meetings, with a total capacity of 50 people, by lift.
With 250 services per hour serving 17 destinations on 12 lines, Kowloon is one of the most important hubs on the Let's Play Server; thanks to this and the station's proximity to Spawn, more than 150 stations can be reached within 5 minutes of Kowloon, either by train, boat, cable car or on foot.
